3-11-08 Hitting Tip
Third tee drill to finish practice off the tee and we will move onto a moving ball next week. The last hitting tip I can give you for the Spring is one that will help stay long through the hitting zone. The swing is a short swing to the ball, but then your swing should stay long through the zone. Many kids I have seen tend to cut their swing off a soon as they make contact. Cutting your swing off means that instead of your swing path going forward, it goes behind your back too soon. One thought I always have when practicing is that after I make contact I like to pretend to hit a second and a third ball on the same path the ball came at me… Back to the tee drill, Place the tee on the outer half of the plate and on the same line of your front foot or slight farther out in front. The tee will look far away, but if the drill is done correctly, it should not be hard to accomplish. The ball should never be pulled in this drill. You should be able to hit the ball to the middle of the field and if possible slight opposite field. You wont be able to pull the ball and if you do, then you probably took a bad swing and cut off the swing. This is the way you might see ARod take a ball down and away and hit it out to right center, he can do it because of his length through the zone and extension. This drill creates extension and length. Hope it helps. Any questions? go to the questions section of the site and I will get back to you asap
