This weeks tip is a mental tip.
Kids and everybody including myself always need to remember to stay inside and through the ball. This terms mean this, inside the ball means that you should always try to hit the inside part of the ball as it comes at you. We always break the ball into three parts as hitters, the inside, the middle, and the outside. If you aim for the outside you will topspin a lot, and hit many grounders on the pull side. The middle is good, but the inside is the place to aim just in case you miss, then you hit the middle. When you hit the inside, you will get more backspin which will result in more distance to the ball. Through the ball means that after contact you continue your swing forward towards the pitcher and not turned over into your back. If you see Manny Ramirez, or many other hitters look like they stick their bat up in the air in the direction that they hit the ball, it does not mean they are showing off, but that they don't want to take their swing behind their back, but forward or through the ball. |
