Fielding Tip
The fieling drill this entry is for the fielder to be able to use his hands and to catch any kind of bounce. This drill is simple and all you need is a partner (coach or parent) with fungo bat and balls. While on a grass or dirt surface, kneel about 20 to 30 feet from partner and have him/her hit you ground balls, not too hard so you don’t get hurt, but mix it up with hard, soft, one bounce, backhand, and forehand. The object of the drill is to use your hands to catch the ball. You eliminate your feet by kneeling so you only use the hands. One key to the drill is to after catching the ball always bring the glove and throwing hand to your bellybutton for glove to hand ball-transfer. Doing this has made my hands be free and easy and has allowed me to be able to react to bad hops. This is one of my favorite drills, I like to do this drill in spring training and in the winter.
