8-10-08 Hitting Tip
A drill that keeps kids inside and through the ball. This drill is again a soft toss drill that I have done a lot throughout my professional career. It is simple but very effective. You will need a screen to protect the one tossing, balls, a person to toss, you and a bat. The person doing the tossing can stand, kneel, or sit. The toss should be a soft underhand to the middle of the strikezone and about knee to thigh high. The hitter should try to stay inside the ball and drive it on a line to opposite gap. This drill I have noticed to be very effective with young kids who tend to try to pull the ball. It helps them stay square to the pitcher and use their hands. Always emphasize going to the opposite field. Hope this helps, any questions? Send them in.
