PITTSBURGH -- Adrian Gonzalez hit a two-run home run, his 21st of the season, Sunday to lead the Padres to a 6-3 victory over the Pirates before a crowd of 18,800 at PNC Park. Gonzalez's home run was part of a five-run third inning as the Padres (58-39) completed a three-game sweep of the Pirates (34-64). The win pushed the Padres to 19 games above .500 for the first time since 1998. Chris Denorfia had a two-run double in that third inning off Pirates pitcher Brad Lincoln (1-4), who allowed six runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. Denorfia later added a solo home run in the seventh inning. San Diego pitcher Wade LeBlanc (5-8) allowed a two-run home run to Ronny Cedeno in the second inning but settled down thereafter. LeBlanc allowed eight hits and no walks in six innings. The Padres are off Monday before opening a three-game series against the Dodgers on Tuesday at PETCO Park. |
